Drive From Wheelchair Vehicles
Here at Wheelchair Cars Ireland we offer an array of Drive From Wheelchair solutions. There is more choice than ever for the wheelchair user to continue driving including Renault Kangoo, Mercedes Sprinter, Kia, Fiat Qubo, Volkswagon Caddy, Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner, Volkswagen Transporter and more. Push Pull hand controls (including indicators, and lights) can be installed to your requirements.
For those of you new to drive from wheelchair vehicles here is a simple explanation of how it works. Assuming the vehicle is rear entry a remote control will open the back door and lower the ramp at the touch of a button. You drive the wheelchair in and remotely close the doors behind you. The wheelchair is locked into position on a docking system. The remote control allows the wheelchair user to access and exit the car with no assistance at all.
Once in the driving position hand controls replace the need to use the pedals. Most commonly the accelerator and brake work on a “Push – Pull” system, however there are other options available such as quad controls. There are various customisations available to the controls when driving from the wheelchair.
To see a list of drive from vehicles we have available simple use the vehicle search form and select “Drive From” in the Body style section.
Also available are vehicles such as the Mercedes Sprinter where the driver can safely transfer inside the vehicle from wheelchair/scooter to drivers seat. In this instance the drivers seat is normally a six way seat which can move forward/back, turn left/right, go up/down to make the transfer as easy as possible.
Last but not least we have the NIPPI, a drive from wheelchair trike. More details of the NIPPI can be seen in the NIPPI section of the site.
